Academic

It is expected that parents who send their children to our school will be prepared to support the school fully in its insistence on high standards of behaviour not only in school but within the local community.

Within the disciplinary sphere, there is some emphasis on rules and regulations. The rules are few but are considered necessary and need to be adhered to, by all, in everyone's interest.

  • We always do as we are told by an adult.
  • We are polite, respectful and kind.
  • We keep our hands and feet to ourselves.
  • We look after one another, our belongings and our school.
  • We always try to do our best.
  • We always walk in school.

  • Students who disobey the rules receive as a consequence:
  • a warning / reminder.
  • Removed from work/play activity (cooling down period)
  • extra work at home writing out school rules.
  • other appropriate sanctions e.g. litter picking,
  • be requested to apologise, make restoration, repair damage, replace item etc
  • involvement of head teacher and parents in Behavioural Support Programme.

Students continue to receive merits for good work and behaviour. Commendations and prizes are awarded each week in assembly, every term and at the end of the school year.
By such a clearly stated Discipline and Behaviour Plan we aim to teach our children how important it is to be responsible for their actions - an essential element for success in life.
We ask that you support our code of conduct in the best interests of all our students and by your own example help to foster good manners and self discipline.

1. School Timing And Attendance

A. You are required to maintain a minimum of 90% attendance.
B. You will not be allowed to miss more than one school day in any month, without a proper Physician Authorization.
C. Any emergency request for absence will have to be approved by the school before the student misses the school.
D. During school hours, you will NOT be allowed to leave the school premises without a specific request from the parents with a genuine reason. This applies to all situations, irrespective of a free period or not.
E. Coming late, you will not be allowed to enter the school and will be returned from the gate. Parents’ slips for allowing a late entry will not be accepted. The day will be counted as absent.
F. If you miss a school day, you will not be allowed to enter the school the following day without an explanatory note from the parents. The note will be checked at the gate.

2. Class Room Behavior

A. The timings of the DIPLOMA classes will be ruled by the clock in the corridor.
B. You will be required to be seated in the class room within five minutes of starting of the period.
C. If the teacher is not in the class within those five minutes it should be reported to the IB Coordinator. Only one of you will leave the class to make the report.
D. Classes can be cancelled only by the direction of the IB Coordinator.
E. Your missing any class during school without any plausible reason will be regarded as a malpractice.

3. Assignments and Examination

B. You are required to secure a minimum B grade of 4 . Anyone scoring less will be administered the test again after two days. The process will continue unless the student has acquired minimum level in above tests.
C. You are personally responsible for securing information about any assignment or test scheduled y the teacher, whether present or absent. No excuses will be accepted
D. If you do not submit an appropriately completed assignment (minimum B grade ) then you will be held back from leaving the school to get the assignment completed.

ACADEMIC PROBATION AND DISCIPLINARY ACTION

The school metes out detention either during school break or after school hours for minor misconducts and suspension for major misconducts. A student with three suspensions during an academic year will be expelled from school.
The student national assembly has, under supervision of the school, designed a penal code system which defines the minor and major misconducts.
Students placed on an Academic probation for two academic semesters will be considered for remedial assistance and counseling. Students scoring less than 50% in more than TWO subjects will be placed under academic probation.

Reporting and Assessment

An annual written report on your child's progress and attainment is issued towards the end of the term. Opportunities to discuss your child's progress are given twice in the year, when private interviews with the class teachers are held via an appointments system. There is also an Open Day when parents and family may visit the school to see the children in their working environment. If, however, parents feel the need to discuss matters concerning their child at other times, they may make a mutually convenient appointment via the head teacher. Progress of all pupils is monitored closely by staff in order that children of all abilities are given opportunities to fulfill their potential.

Home Work

There is a greater realization that education is not solely the responsibility of school but that now everyone has a role to play. The overwhelming majority of parents want to help their children and increasingly the partnership between home and school has a significant impact upon the raising of awareness and standards.

The precise amount of time set for homework is less important than the intrinsic value of the tasks.

The purposes of homework are:

  • • to encourage pupils to develop skills, confidence and motivation to study effectively on their own.
  • • to consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding developed at school (particularly in LITERACY and NUMERACY)
  • • to extend school learning e.g. through additional reading and research.
  • • to develop and sustain the involvement of parents in the management of their children's learning and thereby keep them informed about the work done in school.
  • • to use resources for learning, of all kinds, at home, actively involving parents.

The purposes and types of homework will obviously change as children get older.

Please help your child by:

  • • providing time and a suitable place for homework.
  • • making it clear that you value homework and support our school in explaining how it can help children make progress.
  • • giving praise for the completion of homework.

Children will be given extra work to assist with their learning. This may include some research or written work .Our school web-site is a great source for materials in support of the children’s learning. Daily reading at home is particularly encouraged and parental assistance is greatly appreciated. Staff are only too willing to give parents guidance in this area. Children are provided with a Diary which helps to promote good communication between home and school.

On occasions, when children fail to complete work at school they will be encouraged to finish such tasks at home. We would welcome parents' support on this matter. Thank you.

Don't forget "All work and no play makes Ahmed a dull boy", so time to play, watch TV. Etc. is very important the need is to get the right balance.
